KARACHI: The book launch of ‘In Conversation with Legends – History in Session’ coincided with Pakistan’s 70th Independence Day and was held at Alliance Francaise de Karachi recently. The book is based on Urdu Interviews conducted by Pakistani journalist – Mr. Khurram Sohail and has been edited / translated by Miss Afrah Jamal, freelance columnist. It celebrates 50 sentinels of Pakistan’s national heritage and the incredible legacy they leave behind.
The hour long event included musical tributes to Ustad Rais Khan and Aamir Zaki by Arif Sinan (on guitar) and Turab Ali Hashmi (Sitarist) and featured a short documentary showcasing the dreams and passions of the man behind the vision – Khurram Sohail.
The authors, who were on quest to expand Pakistan’s cultural footprint beyond its borders spoke about their fateful journey that began on that very spot 4 years ago and noted that they had come full circle with the launch. They also felt that this was the perfect moment in time to honor the legacies of their fallen legends. Among the speakers was Rafay Mahmood (journalist) who commented upon the significance of such documents that served to highlight Pakistan’s extensive contributions to the cultural conversation.
The event was attended by the Deputy Consul General of Japan – Mr. Kazuo Tsukada with his wife – Mrs. Naoko, Director Alliance Francaise – JFrancois Chenin, Senator Javed Jabbar, Jameel Dehlavi (filmmaker), Bobby Sheikh and Nadra Sheikh (SHE magazine), Ali Tim (Milestones band), Ayla Raza (Director APMC), Omar Farid (artist), Akbar Subhani (actor), Sabuha Khan (writer), Uzma Mazhar (journalist), Khursheed Hyder (HUM TV), Atif Badar (theatre), Iqbal Saleh (publisher) etc. The book was 4 years in the making and has been published by Paramount Books. It is now available nationwide.
