DUBAI: 2XL, the leading luxury furniture and home décor brand in the UAE, displayed the top five winning designs of its ‘I Love UAE’ National Day design competition at an event held at its Jumeirah store to honour the winners.
2XL received over 200 entries from various universities for the competition. Top three winners received gift vouchers worth AED 10,000, AED 5,000 and AED 3,000, respectively, while two other highly commended entries received AED 1,000 each.
The winners are: Ayesha Mansool, Amity University, Maimuna Rashid, Amity University, Mirna Nasser, Ajman University, Laian Khalid, Sharjah University and Lena King, American University of Dubai.
All students were asked to use the theme ‘I love UAE’ and design a 2XL table lamp provided to them.
Taking a unique direction, Ayesha Mansool used designs inspired by mosaic art to design UAE flag colours.
A rare style was from Maimuna Rashid who depicted UAE’s history into five distinct timelines and decorated the lamp with motifs depicting achievements, monuments and events.
Mirna Nasser opted for black, green and red colours with symbols of flames depicting hope and prosperity.
Laian Khalid used Arabic calligraphy to give a traditional touch to the lamp.
Lena King’s design embodied subtle colours with paintings of horses representing UAE’s love for equestrian sports.
According to Amit Yadav, Marketing Manager, 2XL: “This is the second edition of our design competition to commemorate UAE National Day and we are amazed by the creativity of the designs we received. It was a tough call to decide the finalists and winners. We would like to thank all the participants and the universities that put them forward. The designs truly capture the culture, history and achievements that mark this great nation.” News Desk
