DUBAI: Nine Middlesex University Dubai students participated in the American University of Sharjah’s 11th Annual Model United Nations (AUSMUN) conference from 8th to 10th February 2018. The conference attracted participation from over 840 delegates across 13 of the top universities and high schools in the UAE and beyond.
The nine Middlesex University Dubai students were mentored by Mahine Rizvi Ahmad, Lecturer in the School of Law, and spent weeks researching and preparing for the committees and topics. The students demonstrated great enthusiasm, passion and expert public speaking and advocacy skills during the three days conference.
The Middlesex University Dubai team won four of the top delegate awards including:
- Asiya F Ajmal, 1st Year LLB won Outstanding Delegate ECOSOC Bolivia
- Mohamed Nor, 1st Year LLB won Distinguished Delegate OHCHR Bolivia
- Ahmed Waheed Ahmed Hassan Al Khan, 2nd Year LLB won Honorable Mention WIPO Thailand
- Richardt Schoonraad, 1st Year HRM with Psychology won Best Research WIPO Bolivia
The conference provided students with a unique experience to explore dynamics of the United Nations (UN) and provides valuable insight into the international realm of politics. The fostered debates, alliances and supported thoughtful solutions proposed to address pressing issues of current times.

This year’s conference covered important and timely topics such as human rights, illegal organ trade, poverty reduction, security threats, sustainable development, water and food security, weaponisation of space, youth empowerment and many more. Says in press release
