SEWA and GE discuss support to Vision 2020 and UAE Energy Plan 2050 through projects to strengthen Sharjah’s power sector

SHARJAH: Senior officials of the Sharjah Water & Electricity Authority (SEWA) hosted a high-level delegation from GE (NYSE: GE) to discuss potential projects to strengthen Sharjah’s power sector. The initiatives are in line with SEWA’s Vision 2020, aimed at driving a culture of innovation and sustainability in line with the UAE Energy Plan 2050 to cut carbon dioxide emissions, increase clean energy and strengthen energy efficiency.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Rashid AlLeem Chairman of SEWA; John Flannery, Chairman & CEO of GE; Alex Dimitrief, President & CEO of GE’s Global Growth Organization; Nabil Habayeb, President & CEO for GE Middle East, North Africa & Turkey; Dr. Dalya Al Muthanna, President & CEO of GE Gulf; and Ghassan Barghout, President & CEO for GE’s Gas Power Systems business in the Middle East & North Africa.

More than 20 GE heavy duty gas turbines equip SEWA’s power generation and desalination facilities across Sharjah, Khorfakkan and Kalba today, capable of generating up to 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity.
