ICAP hosts Certificates’ Distribution Ceremony for the newly qualified Chartered Accountants

KARACHI: The bi-annual certificates’ distribution ceremony for the newly qualified Chartered Accountants was hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and organised by the Southern Regional Committee (SRC), ICAP here at a local hotel.

As many as 75 newly qualified CAs of the Southern Region received their certificates. Of them 15 students received merit certificates and three were awarded a gold medal for outstanding performance. The theme for the evening was “The Future: You!”.

In his welcome address, Riaz A. Rehman Chamdia, FCA, President ICAP congratulated the newly qualified and their parents on this milestone by encouraging them to stay on the path of success in the future.

You must strive for hard work in near future, be honest, vigilant and vibrant to succeed as a true professional. As chasing your dreams, it requires a lot of hard work and commitment, he emphasized. He also commented that the Institute will always be there to support for career progression aspirations.

Khaliq-ur- Rehman, Past President ICAP said that we have around 8,000 CAs in profession and industry and of them around 2,000 are working abroad leaving us with remaining 6,000. This number has to be increased. Traditional avenues for new graduates are assurance and professional practice, he added.

Tax laws are becoming complicated day by day and all provinces have separate tax authorities. When you opt to this industry, do not stick to accounts and finance departments as there is lot more to do in other sectors, he suggested.

Other guest speaker for the evening was Asher Noor, FCA, Chief Investment Officer, Al Touq, Saudi Arabia. He said that CA is a superior qualification in the country and world but it is not the end, the journey has just started.

He suggested that professionals should acquire multidisciplinary skills and work hard to develop soft skills. If you have ethics nothing else matter, if you don’t have ethics nothing else matters. There is no shortcut to success in your profession. The mentorship program is ICAP is the best which helps to look at the success and failures from which you will learn a lot. Future chartered accountants are the face of an organization. He encouraged the qualified CAs to “lead from the front”.

Rehman Chamdia President, ICAP, Khaliq-ur- Rehman, Past President ICAP, Farrukh Rehman, Vice President ICAP, Hina Usmani, Council Member ICAP, Sharif Tabani, Council Member ICAP, Khaliq-ur- Rahman, Past President ICAP, Mohammad Zulfikar Akhtar, Honorary Secretary, Southern Regional Committee, Asher Noor, FCA, Chief Investment Officer and Chief Financial Officer, AlTouq Group, Saudia Arabia and other dignitaries.
