DUBAI: Cycling enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels will be able to casually ride, as well as test their physical skills, endurance and determination when UAE Team Emirates makes a stop this Friday, 26th October at the Al Qudra cycling track to mark the first day of the Dubai Fitness Challenge.
The event is open to Emirates Group employees, families with a passion for cycling, as well as dedicated and recreational cyclists who want to meet the UAE’s first and only professional cycling team competing in the UCI World Tour in some of the most prestigious races around the world, including the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta d’Espana.
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group said: “We are kicking off the Dubai Fitness Challenge with a great community initiative that will help boost physical activity for our employees as well as the wider public with UAE Team Emirates. The cycling team are our ambassadors for the UAE in cycling, helping bring the UAE to the world stage of cycling, and we hope that today’s event contributes to Dubai’s goal of becoming one of the world’s most active cities.”
The event will begin at 1000hrs and will end at 1200hrs, and riding will commence at ‘Last Exit’, culminating at Al Qudra Lakes for a scenic ending. The full 30-cyclist strong team will engage and ride with all participants. For serious riders who want to test their endurance and skills against the professional cyclists, the ride will extend up to 70 kilometres. Those who prefer to participate for a short, leisurely ride can do so with a few of the cyclists for the five kilometre challenge.

During the 30-day Dubai Fitness Challenge, the Emirates Group will also run a variety of activities, including a schedule of employee events, trainings and classes fully run by staff. There are almost 40 different sports and hobby clubs already managed and run by Emirates Group employees, ranging from football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, cricket, cycling, rugby, hockey, amongst other sports.
The Dubai Fitness Challenge kicks off from 26th October and will run until 24th November. Sports Desk
