DUBAI: Dubai Press Club (DPC) today honoured the participants and entities who supported the ‘Advanced Economic Journalism’ programme at a special ceremony held on the sidelines of the 18th Arab Media Forum (AMF).

Launched in October 2018 in partnership with DP World, the ‘Advanced Economic Journalism’ training programme featured hands-on training sessions, interactive workshops and assessments aimed at introducing journalists to best practices in financial markets, both locally and globally, and improving the quality of business reporting.

The media and academic entities honoured at the ceremony included: Murdoch University, Bloomberg, Sky News Arabia, CNBC Arabia, financial news-portal Argaam and Thomson Reuters Foundation. UAE-based business reporters, who completed the six-month programme and lecturers who delivered the workshops were also honoured.

Commenting on the occasion, Her Excellency Mona Al Marri, President of Dubai Press Club (DPC), said that the programme was organised with the aim of enhancing the skills of business reporters working in various UAE-based media organisations. “The programme was focused on developing the analytical and research skills of media professionals in order to improve the quality of business reporting in the country,” she said.

Al Marri affirmed DPC’s keenness to develop the media sector in the UAE and ensure news organisations are able to deliver in-depth business articles with professionalism and accuracy. “To effectively cover the Dubai economy, which has emerged as a global business and commercial hub, media organisations need to be equipped with advanced skills,” she said.

Al Marri thanked all the partners and entities who contributed to the success of the programme. She also stressed the value generated by the strategic partnership between DPC and DP World that has led to the launch of several quality initiatives.

“I take this opportunity to thank all our partners, particularly DP World, a leading institution in the UAE that has helped build bridges of economic cooperation between Dubai and many parts of the world. I also extend my appreciation to the media, academic institutions and the lecturers who enriched the workshops with their experiences,” Al Marri said.

His Excellency Mohammed Al Muallem, Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, DP World, highlighted the importance of having business reporters with deep knowledge in economic affairs, so that they are able to highlight the UAE’s economic achievements. Al Muallem also praised the role of DPC in launching initiatives that contribute to enhancing the media sector in the UAE. He said DP World has always been keen to support the development of UAE media.

Workshops held as part of the Programme addressed a comprehensive range of professional topics with the aim of helping economic journalists polish their skills and keep abreast of changes and economic trends.
