KARACHI: An important element of Interior Sindh’s landscape is the increasing social, ethnic and religious fragmentation and polarization of the various groups living in Sindh. Limited opportunities to positively engage with one another to break social, cultural and economic barriers have made the socio-ethnic and religious fault lines more prominent. Both of these factors have significantly diminished the resilience of the people at the community level to counter Violent Extremist groups, mindset and recruitment tactics leading to a reduced ability to collectively respond to these problems.

One potential way of addressing the above problem is through the performing arts, which can help re-sensitize viewers to the power of unity, tolerance and the rich and diverse cultural heritage to create grassroots counter-narrative.
