The Book Launch of Message Sent: The Life and Works of Adil Salahuddin

KARACHI: ADA (architecture, design and art) launched “Message Sent- Life and work of Adil Salahuddin” postage stamps book” at Alliance Francaise Karachi yesterday, 9th August 2019.

The book is compiled by British-Pakistani author, Arshi Ahmad-Aziz. She has covered Salahuddin’s educational background, his NCA days, and his journey as Pakistan‘s most prolific stamp designer. The book has a number of sketches and numerous stamps designed and printed over a 37-year long career with the Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC).

The event at the Alliance Francaise Karachi featured a discussion with leading intellectuals from the field of stamps. The conversation highlighted importance of stamps, preservation, history and the Pakistan post. Among the speakers Ms. Arshi Ahmed (Author) spoke about research and compilation of the book, Adil Salahudin, spoke about printing and design, Iqbal Nanji, President of the Pakistan Philately Society, spoke about representative Pakistan in international stamp exhibitions, Akbar Dero, Post Master General, spoke on the post office distribution processes, Dr. Kaleemullah Lashari, Historian, spoke on the Scinde Dawk network, an old postal system that operated till the current system came into place and Dr. Asma Ibrahim, Director State Bank Museum & Art Gallery spoke about the role of state bank in archiving and display of coins, currency and stamps.

 

A book viewing and signing with Arshi Ahmed and Adil Salahudin. The proceedings began at 7pm with a welcome address by Bina Shah, Director of Alliance Francaise De Karachi and a brief introduction by event organizers Maria Aslam and Ruqayya. The event was moderated by Nilofur Farrukh (Critic, Curator and Activist).
