HBMSU Board of Governors review highlights of Academic Year 2019/2018

DUBAI: Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU) announced that it has held its first regular meeting for the Academic Year 2019/2020, chaired by His Excellency Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai and Chairman of HBMSU’s Board of Governors (BOG). The meeting discussed the various achievements and initiatives conducted by the university during the last academic year.

H.E. Lieutenant General Khalfan lauded the leadership and accomplishment of the university which has maintained its position among the top 10 smart universities in the world. H.E urged the BOG members to keep moving forward and make a positive and genuine change in the educational system, in accordance with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and President of HBMSU. The university’s efforts are geared towards achieving the principles of the ‘50-Year Charter’ and has been proactively responding to it, capitalizing on its many successes in reshaping the future of learning and teaching.

His Excellency added: “Our successes are the result of our serious efforts to spread smart learning and establish innovation, knowledge and scientific research as pillars of learning. These strategies have contributed to the university being recognized as a leading institution for scientific knowledge essential in preparing future leaders. We are proud of our strategic partnerships and strong relationships with the most prestigious regional and global organizations, attesting to the confidence of the international community and academia to HBMSU. The university continues to lead the path of excellence in developing smart academic and training programs following forward-looking methodologies that empower the future generations with the ability to cope with changes, reflecting the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. We look forward to further strengthening our fruitful cooperation with all government institutions to support them with leading professionals in line with our commitment to human development that is a top priority in the UAE.”

The meeting witnessed the review of the university’s achievements during the Academic Year 2019/2018, which included the signing of several strategic cooperation agreements. Some of these agreements include the partnership with Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance to develop a joint Islamic finance internship program which supports UAE and China’s programs under the One Belt, One Road Initiative intended to strengthen the level of economic cooperation based on transparency, balance and openness between the two nations. The meeting also highlighted the agreement with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai to cooperate in intellectual property protection, and conduct joint training and legal, technical and administrative consultations.

The members of the Board of Governors emphasized the continued use of advanced technology to improve the educational system in line with future needs, following the success of the ‘IT Support Chatbot’ and ‘Library Chatbot’ which are important additions to HBMSU’s excellent technological structure which led to its top ranks among the world’s best smart universities.

The meeting also briefed the BOG members about the visits of top local and international delegations to the campus, including the visit of His Majesty the King of the Kingdom of Tonga, official delegations from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, official delegations from the Republic of Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz & his Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA), as well as a delegation from Ajman Police. All these high-level visits confirm the high level of confidence that the university enjoys as a true driver of future universities.

The meeting agenda included the highlights of the graduation ceremony for the ‘Summer Camp’ of HBMSU’s Entrepreneurship and Technology Science Program, which was launched in partnership with Juvenile Care and Awareness Association. The program featured the adoption of blockchain technology and ended with the awarding of 18 outstanding winners for their pilot projects.

The meeting ended with a focus on planning for a follow-up training course for the “international leaders” program, which held previously in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) with a total of 91 participants. It also noted on key updates concerning the planned scientific partnership with the Joint Commission International (JCI) aimed at developing educational programs that support the improvement of the quality and safety of healthcare.
