ISLAMABAD: In another disruptive measure to boost the country’s digital ecosystem, Telenor Pakistan has successfully launched the first ever Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) site in Pakistan. With IoT expected to take over the technological landscape in years to come, the development of NB-IoT site is a major development as the technology ensures low power consumption resulting in higher battery life, penetrative signals for greater reach, low latency for quick response, high security and better scalability of the connected devices and integrated solutions.

Through NB-IoT, Telenor Pakistan aims to bring revolutionary changes to the local industries through increased connectivity, deep coverage, energy saving, and lower costs. The technology will remarkably improve the civil infrastructure by aiding development of advanced solutions like smart metering, smart water monitoring, smart homes, smart fire systems, and smart agriculture etc. With its ability to support massive machine-type communication (mMTC) and enable high-penetration, low-power, low-cost and low-data-rate communication, NB-IoT is set to be a game-changer for the local industries.

“This development testifies our commitment towards a Digital Pakistan and furthers our empowerment goals.” said KhurrumAshfaque, Chief Technology Officer, Telenor Pakistan. “Telenor introduced IoT in Pakistan in 2015, hosting a series of country’s largest IoT exhibitions and launching useful IoT products. Today, we take a step further towards boosting the IoT ecosystem in the country with the launch of the country’s first NB-IoT site. I am confident that the development will provide the local industries a solid footing to operate smarter and contribute to a more citizen-friendly civil infrastructure.”

Telenor Pakistan has taken the first leap towards establishing the foundation to support future technologies that will automate, monitor and invent new solutions for businesses and consumers. The site was launched in collaboration with ZTE and Linked Things. NB-IoT paves the way for the development of smart solutions to increase performance and efficiency in Pakistan’s industrial and  civil infrastructures.
