DUBAI:The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens is around the corner and is celebrating its 50th anniversary on 5th-7th December 2019. The event has reached a significant milestone in its lifetime of promoting the true spirit of athletes, pure sportsmanship, solid entertainment and a fun-filled weekend for families and fans. The gathering of over 100,000 people at The Sevens Stadium from all over the world shows how far the event has come since the days when a small group of British expats at the Dubai Exiles RFC played on sand.
The Invitation Tournament
With only one month to go until the biggest weekend of the year, planning and preparation for the event is in full swing. The Emirates Airline Invitation Rugby Tournament will host over 230 teams from all over the world who will battle it out in 15 sections and fans may be lucky enough to spot a number of rugby legends on the pitches. Over 60 teams will compete as part of the 5th Emirates Airline Invitation Netball Tournament – a record number of teams since the competition launched.
HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series
The weekend will launch on Thursday 5th December with action from world-class players from 28 teams (men and women) from all over the world as they compete in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series. For the first time in history, the men’s teams will compete on pitch 1 on Thursday which is free to enter for everyone and the finals for both the Series teams (men & women) will be on Saturday 7th December, making it a ‘Super Saturday’ for all spectators and fans.

Kylie Minogue in Concert
The event is celebrating its 50th birthday in style with a performance by the world famous international pop-singer Kylie Minogue in concert on Friday 6th December. Taking place at The Sevens Stadium on pitch 2, the Grammy Award-winning superstar will take to the stage at 9.30pm to perform a series of hits from her 30-year career.
Win a Meet & Greet with Kylie Minogue
Kylie fans who buy a ticket to the Dubai Sevens before Thursday 7th November will be automatically entered in a prize draw to win a meet & greet with Kylie Minogue, a unique experience which they can enjoy with three of their friends.
The Rugby Village & Family Activities
The Rugby Village will be overflowing with exciting and fun-filled activations for both adults and children on all three days. It’s a win-win situation for parents as they can entertain their kids with several activities such as zip-lining, inflatable water park from Splash ‘n’ Party, bungee jumping and much more. For the slightly younger ones, the popular Sabaa 7s Club will offer equally enjoyable activities such as face painting and soft play areas. Raffles Nursery will also be on-site and is open for all children under the age of 4, where the little ones can have a great time whilst their parents enjoy the rugby games with an assurance that their children are being well looked after.
70s Fancy Dress & On-Pitch Entertainment
To make the weekend even more exciting, everyone is encouraged to come to the event dressed in their best 70s fancy dress to celebrate the early days of the Dubai Sevens. Further adding to the entertainment offer, the talented ‘Mana Cheerleaders’ from London will be showcasing some favorite 70s routines with a little twist on Pitch 1 on all three days alongside this year’s tribute artist, Freddy Mercury.
The VIP Experience and Reserved Seating
The events’ brand-new VIP Experience, ‘Studio 50’ will be open on Friday and Saturday where fans can enjoy unlimited food and beverages, combined with general access to the Kylie Minogue Concert on Friday. Fans who buy two or more VIP tables for Studio 50 will also be entered in a separate draw to win a meet & greet with Kylie.
Reserved Seating is open once again and in a special package this year, fans can purchase season tickets with reserved seats and Golden Circle access to the concert for AED1,250 – tickets in this category are selling fast.
