KARACHI: Aimed at enhancing employability of workforce through skill development, mentoring and on-job training, K-Electric initiated a two-year Apprenticeship Programme in 2017 with a first batch of over 30 apprentices and the vision to train hundreds more across areas of generation, distribution and transmission. Recently the first batch of 38 distribution apprentices passed out as electrical technicians in a ceremony held at KE’s Distribution Network Academy.
Under the K-Electric Apprenticeship Programme, several apprentices have successfully completed training in various aspects of the energy value chain. After qualifying, these graduates are not only considered for full-time employment in various areas of the organization, they are also a potential pool of talent for the wider power sector which is witnessing transformative growth on the back of sustained investments.
Congratulating the apprentices at the occasion, KE spokesperson said, “KE’s commitment and efforts towards uplifting Karachi go beyond mere power provision; we also envision enabling people through capacity-building and strengthened socio-economic prosperity. This Programme is a testament of KE’s Corporate Social Responsibility to empower and enable the youth, while simultaneously strengthening the organization’s human resource.” Based on the success of the programme, the power utility has announced the 2019-2020 session for Distribution while recruitments for Generation and Transmission apprentices have already been completed. Over the years, KE has created various powerful platforms to engage the youth in healthy activities be it providing professional exposure, sporting events and encouraging student initiatives. KE has partnered with NED University to establish its electrical engineering lab along with the provision of integrated equipment. Similarly, KE provided a Power System Simulator for Engineering (PSSE) software to NEDUET helping students to better understand transmission planning and undertake simulation exercises. KE’s innovative and research-driven approach coupled with deployment of latest technology in various facets of its business makes it a world-class power utility and thus an ideal platform of learning and exposure for employees.
