LAHORE: Kaarvan is immensely pleased to start the new year with the wonderful news that it has been nominated for the “Digitally Decentralised Rural Economy” prize by the World Summit on The Information Society (WSIS).
The WSIS is organized by the International Telecommunication Union and is part of the United Nations agenda. It was created in recognition of the digital revolution which has opened new avenues for a multitude of fields allowing information to travel, ensuring humanitarian needs are met quicker and effectively, constructive action is generated around the environment and more.
Established in 2004 Kaarvan has a holistic practice of working at the grass root level by providing a wide variety of skills training enabling rural based women to work from home. Kaarvan has trained female artisans to use smartphones encouraging micro-entrepreneurship and created market linkages allowing easy access for commercial purposes. This eliminates exploitation as artisans earn directly and strengthens the rural economy. Till now 25,000 rural women in a 1,000 villages across Pakistan have been trained and mobilized in an economic capacity. Our partners include UNESCO, UN Women, British Asian Trust, DFID, CERP, Crescent Bahuman, Samusng, Daraz and many others who consistently work with us for socially constructive purposes.
