ISLAMABAD: In order to support widows and persons with disabilities at their door step, Pakistan Bait ul Mal (PBM) is launching an inclusive plan in collaboration with Telenor Microfinance Bank. In this regard, PBM and the Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in a simple ceremony in the presence of limited guests and with all necessary precautionary measures in place to avoid the spread of coronavirus.
Sharing the details of the initiative, Managing Director PBM, Aon Abbas Buppi told that in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak, PBM’s centres for orphan children throughout the country “Dar-ul-Ehsaas” are closed and the children are living with their mothers or guardians. PBM has decided to transfer amount for expenses of around 5,000 children to their guardians in place of the expenses being borne by PBM in the centres earlier for their boarding, food, education and clothing.
Similarly, PBM will also provide financial assistance to around 5,000 persons with disabilities, associated with PBM, under Special Friend Project, throughout the country. Transfer of funds to beneficiaries will be made on their CNICs via Easypaisa, country’s largest digital banking service operated by Telenor Microfinance Bank. The beneficiaries will be able to receive the amount from Easypaisa’s widespread network of over 70,000 agents across Pakistan.
Talking via video link with President & CEO Telenor Microfinance Bank, M. Mudassar Aqil, Managing Director PBM, Aon Abbas Buppi said that present critical condition invokes the philanthropic participation of every person to help the needy country fellows. Expressing his gratitude to Telenor Microfinance Bank for offering their Easypaisa platform free of charge for disbursements, Managing Director PBM said that this cooperation interprets the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to take concrete steps for supporting the vulnerable populace in the time of hardships.
President & CEO, Telenor Microfinance Bank / Easypaisa, M. Mudassar Aqil commended the program for facilitating orphans and disabled persons during the crisis. He said, “Pakistan is fortunate to have a robust digital payments platform, Easypaisa, in place which can facilitate instant and safe Government-to-People transfers. Through this collaboration with Pakistan Bait ul Mal, we are playing our part in supporting the nation in this time of need. We have offered our Easypaisa platform for these transfers without any charges and are also working with other government and private institutions to leverage our cutting-edge digital financial services and keep the nation safe”.
Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal and Telenor Microfinance Bank have also worked together previously for the promotion of financial knowledge in women of the country. This time around, they have extended their partnership to support widows and disabled persons. During such testing times, paperless transactions and digital payments can play a pivotal role in promoting a safe environment for all citizens.
