KARACHI: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-CoV-2). The means of transmission is through respiratory droplets produced when a person coughs or sneezes, or by direct physical contact with an infected person.
“Testings are not being done as people consider it as stigma to get themselves tested and one feels that it’s a creepy exercise”, said Deputy Commissioner South Karachi Mr Irshad Ali Sodhar in a meeting with Rotary Club at his office.
They have been doing considerable work in South Karachi to sensitize the COVID 19 awareness among masses. He has proactive surveillance team specially Polio Workers with the support of Rotary Foundation Trustee Mr. Aziz Memon who has done remarkable work towards elimination of Polio.
The District Administrator South has also introduced Drive through Testing Centre at Port Qasim where rapid testing is being done without interacting with any of the worker. He desires to open more drive through centres specially at Lyari where population is considerate in number.
The roads are being fumigated after every 2 days in order to control the spread of virus. He desires to open an independent Quarantine facility with considerable facilities of disinfect tunnel, PPEs, N95 masks, shields, beds, sanitizers, gloves etc and requested Rotary to come forward and support them in the best of their capability.
