KARACHI: As a healthcare provider, patient comments are very important to us. COVID-19 treatment requires a multidisciplinary team including specialty doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, as well as housekeeping, food services and other support staff. Such care dictates multiple visits to each patient, requiring change of personal protective equipment (“PPE”) for each visit. All AKUH staff must wear the appropriate PPE, which includes gowns, caps, masks and double gloves to ensure that the patient and the staff are appropriately protected from cross infection. These infection control practices are based on international guidelines followed by hospitals around the world. However, these guidelines do result in additional costs. Our highly experienced doctors, nurses and practitioners are working day and night to care for and save the lives of critically sick COVID-19 patients.
To ensure the safest possible care of our patients, we have a dedicated COVID-19 treatment facility with defined treatment and PPE protocols. Thus, COVID-19 patients are confined to designated areas so that all other hospital functions can continue and all other patients may continue to seek and receive necessary health care.
AKUH is focused on the goal to send every admitted patient home in the best health condition as possible. During this difficult time, we thank you for the continued confidence reposed in us and we are grateful to all our patients, their families and our healthcare heroes who continue to serve our nation on the frontline during this international crisis.
