Promoting Economic Diplomacy, Indonesian Consul General in Karachi meets FPCCI officials

KARACHI: To further enhance the trade relations between Indonesia and Pakistan, and as part of promoting economic diplomacy, Indonesian Consul General in Karachi, Mr. Totok Prianam to along with the Consul for Economic Affairs of the Indonesian Consulate visited the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Head Office in Karachi, Monday, September 14, 2020. The visit was warmly welcomed by the Chairman and other office bearers of the FPCCI, reflecting the cordial relations between the two countries.

On the occasion, Indonesian Consul General highlighted an update of Indonesian Economic Diplomacy in Sindh Province, through implementation of outreach activities and cooperation programs that have been established with Pakistani business communities through Associations and Chambers of Commerce in Sindh Province.

Furthermore, Indonesian Consul General in Karachi emphasized the importance of increasing cooperation in the trade and investment sectors, especially in the context of economic recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic. To that end, Indonesian Consul General presented a digital-based inquiry system that can be accessed via QR Code to make it easier for business communities in both countries to obtain or provide information on export-import and investment needs so that they can enter the market of each country bridged by the Indonesian Consulate in Karachi.

The potential of enhancing two-way trade between Indonesia and Pakistan was positively welcomed by the FPCCI with hope that the facilities provided by the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi could increase economic and trade cooperation in the future. Especially with the optimization of the Indonesia – Pakistan Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and the addition of a concession of 20 tariffs lines as an incentive that would help Pakistan to reduce the trade deficit with Indonesia.

FPCCI also hope to hold special sectoral meetings with Indonesian business associations or chambers of commerce through virtual meetings.
