KARACHI: “Cultural activities were suspended due to Corona and in the post-pandemic period, president Arts Council Mohammad Ahmad Shah took a great initiative for cultural activities by organizing The Awami Theatre Festival 2020 and arranged entertainment for the artist community and the people before the culture department.
Public appreciation for the artists will discourage extremism in the city.” These views were expressed by the Provincial Minister for Culture Syed Sardar Ali Shah while addressing the inaugural function of the “Awami Theatre Festival” held at Karachi Arts Council.
Further addressing the ceremony he said “It is to the credit of Ahmed Shah that he has nurtured the Arts Council and brought artists together from all over the country. In an atmosphere of fear and dread, such festivals are a breath of fresh air. Arts Council has played a key role in the revival of the arts.
On the occasion, President Arts Council Muhammad Ahmad Shah said that cultural activities were suspended during the Corona pandemic but Sindh has overtaken other provinces in the resumption of cultural activities and this fun-filled entertaining Awami Theatre Festival is an example of that.
He said that he is grateful to the provincial minister of culture for his presence and glad to the Governing Body of the Arts Council for organizing this Festival.
“The arts council is the home to artists and during the circumstances they were expecting from me to do something, we announced this Awami Theatre Festival for them and the theater would be taken to other cities of Sindh as well,” he added.
The Awami Theatre Festival was inaugurated with the national anthem. On the inauguration ceremony, the first show of the festival “Khala Khyalon me” by Pervaiz Siddiqui was presented. This Festival includes 18 plays and will last till October 4.
A Large number of people attended the event with their families. The festival was organized under all the SOPs.
