KARACHI: “Where there is no theatre culture, people won’t go there to watch it and this same thing used to happen in Lahore in the time of Kamal Ahmed Rizvi. later when he became popular on television than People used to come after his name to watch him at the theatre,” Said film and television actress Samina Ahmed during a talk about “theatre dilemma-passion or profession” at Arts Council, Karachi.
“Why dramas can’t be played in the street the same way as cricket, it will spread peace in the society,” said Samina Ahmed.
Speaking on the occasion she further said “To normalize the theatre culture it is important to make theatre halls reliable for the audience and playwrights. For the betterment of our society we should make arts studies common.
“The main purpose of theater is to tell a story, and how you present it, is more significant. It has always been difficult for us to form and flourish institutions and sadly, here we can’t express the stories the way we think of it” Said the director Ehtesham Uddin.
Playwright Saqib Sumeer said “Theater is deeper than we think. Presently. I along with Sajid Hassan working on Ankahi 2.0 and it is set in the present day. “The hard work of our seniors paid off, now people have become more conscious about theatres, and hopefully our future generations will see a better form of arts” he added.
