KARACHI: The Consulate of Italy organized a seminar during the cuisine week 2021 having a theme of “Tradition and perspectives of Italian cuisine awareness and enhancement of sustainability food”. (Dedicated to the promotion of quality Italian cuisine and food products.)
The event was held with the collaboration of CNH Industrial and Pakistan Adam Motors together with the Italian Consulate, Italian Trade Agency and Italian Development Committee to create awareness among the academicians, industry players, and stakeholders of agricultural mechanization towards the harmful effects of diesel pollutants on humans and plants titled “Diesel Exhaust pollutant emissions and after-treatment emission control technologies in the agriculture sector”.
Mr. Danilo Giurdanella, Consul of Italy in Karachi gave the opening address and spoke about the Italian Cuisine Week and Italy’s role towards sustainability and the fight against the spread of front-pack labeling systems that hinge on nutritional profiles and algorithms, unsupported by solid scientific basis prevalent in the world, that point to discriminate against foods by simply qualifying them as healthy & unhealthy therefore likely to penalize the Mediterranean Diet and Made in Italy products.
The objective of the seminar is promoting and enhancing supply chains abroad, local Italian sustainable agri-food, agric food technology, promotion of gastronomic biodiversity, agri-food and local gastronomic culture. Imports of machinery have grown consistently in recent years and stood at PKR~1,617bln in FY21. The recovery in economic activity in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic has spurred growth during the current period.
Mr. Alessandro Lamura, the trade Commissioner substantiated the topic by presenting World Week of Itaian Cuisine- sustainability, quality of Italian culinary heritage and food products. He apprised the participants on the strength of the Italian Agritec sector and Italy’s significant role in the food sector.
Mr. Mansoor Rizvi, Country Head CNH Industrial (former Fiat group) eloquently spoke on the obsolete technology being used in Agriculture and automotive sector resulting in increased diesel pollutants emissions. He spoke about the after treatment emission technologies and Italian expertise in the sector.
President IDC, Aarij Iqbal spoke specifically on the topic of sustainability and the overall measures that should be taken on sustainble agriculture in Pakistan; furthermore, he spoke about mechanisms of maintainence on the complete supply chain therefore ” From Farm to Fork”.
