A grand congregation titled as COP26: Conference on Climate Change was hosted by Rotary Club of Karachi Educationists in collaboration with Pakistan Academic Consortium (PAC). The event gathered notable representatives from academia, climate change / social activists, community leaders and students from different schools and colleges.
The speakers emphasized that climate change might displace millions of people across globe as scientists worry that we may be pushing the planet towards ecological collapse as the risk of climate change is growing with every ton of greenhouse gases emitted into the atmosphere. While sharing interesting presentations, students reiterated the need for substantial action to limit the magnitude of climate change both in developed and under developed parts of the world.
‘There is a need for an immediate action to manage climate crisis. We must ensure that climate decisions are based on best possible scientific knowledge, analysis, advice, today and in the future’, said PAC Founder & President RCK Educationists Nasir R. Zaidi.
The key note speaker was Lubna Panjwani, Assistant Governor, Rotary International Dist. 3271 while other eminent speakers included Rizwan Jaffar (Chairman Youth Parliament), Naeem Qureshi (President – National Forum for Environment & Health), Ainee Shehzad (Principal – Habib Public School), Humair Anwar (Broadcast Journalist) and Rida F. Siddiqui (District Interact Representative), Maliha Abbas Zaidi (Founder – National Dialogue on Climate Change), Darashikoh Hashmi (Change Activist), Emaan Danish (Founder – Earth Warriorz Pakistan).
Special awards were conferred upon community leaders who have played pivotal role in highlighting climate change awareness including Rotary District Governor Nominee 2023-24 Muhammad Hanif Khan, seasoned educationist Azadar H. Zaidi, Chief Editor Pakistan Observer Faisal Zahid Malik, Founder Karachi Schools’ Guide Binish Umair, Justice of Peace Aman Pir, Khalid Jamil Shamsi, Tauseef Shah, Nasir Butt, Ahmer Rehman, Mustafa Baghpati etc.
The masters of the ceremony were Club Secretary Rtn. Fahad N. Siddiqui and Vice President Arsalan Faruqi who played vital role in organizing the event along with club members.
