Under the patronage of Sheikh Ahmed Bin Hamad bin Saif Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Tennis and Country Club Fujairah (TCCF) hosted the National Squash Tournament. The National Squash Tournament witnessed Scintillating competitions displaying the talent of squash players in the UAE. The event featured the Junior and Senior Squash tournaments that attracted squash enthusiasts from all over the UAE. The Junior Squash competitions were categorized based on the age groups U/9, U/11, U/13, U/15, U/17, and U/19; and the categories of the Senior Squash tournaments included Division A and Division B.
Alden Fernandes dominated in the Junior Squash U/11 and U/13 group, and Shiven Seth won the U/15 competitions. Aley Mogued Afifi won the U/17 competition, while Omar Afifi took the top place in the U/19 group in National Junior Tournament. Division A competition in National Senior Tournament was won by Titov Vladishav, and his competitor Muhammad Jehangir Khan finished second. Leslie Fernandes dominated the Division B group, while Gourav Samtani finished second in the competition.
The events were attended by His Excellency, Mohammed Mubarak AlMutaiwei, the President of UAE Squash Federation, Obaid Ahmed Al Lagash Al Dhanhani, Vice President of the Federation, Salah Al Hamad, General Manager of TCCF, and squash sporters from Fujairah and other Emirates.
His Excellency Mohammed Mubarak AlMutaiwei paid major tribute to the TCCF for planning the major tournament at short notice, saying: “I would like to extend sincere thanks to the TCCF team for stepping in so enthusiastically to host this year’s squash championship. After a long pandemic period, this year’s squash championship is even more critical for the talented young players to come together and compete for the highly coveted titles in National Junior and Senior Squash Tournaments”.
Sheikh Ahmed expressed his appreciation steadfast commitment of TCCF to host national and international sports events. “We aim to develop Fujairah’s position as a regional sports hub, as well as favourite international sports destination. TCCF staged the National Squash Tournament with its commitment that will further boost the position of Fujairah as the favourite destination for sports. We congratulate TCCF for the superb sporting facilities and commitment to encouraging sports in Fujairah and the UAE.’”
Hania Reggi, Senior Marketing and Sales Manager at TCCF expressed her delight in bringing together the exciting tournaments for the residents of Fujairah. Jaques Harmes, Director of Squash Tournament remarked: “it’s great to organize another National Squash Tournament that will help to transform squash at the grassroot level. We aim to create an atmosphere that attracts and welcomes the young squash players.” This year’s event saw squash enthusiasts travelling from all over the UAE to participate in the exciting matches in both junior and senior categories, and we are glad that the tournament demonstrated the highest standards of squash being played in the UAE. I believe this tournament will further promote squash as the favourite sport in the country” Jaques added. Squash enthusiasts and professionals said that it was heartening to see junior squash players display their great potential and this is TCCF’s effort to promote squash in the Emirate of Fujairah and particularly encourage young squash players to focus on playing competitive sports.
