The eighth edition of ‘Emergency Medicine Conference’ concludes in Abu Dhabi

The eighth edition of the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine Conference concluded, with more than 1200 healthcare professions specialised in Emergency Medicine participating in the event. Experts from around the world discussed all major sub-specialities of Emergency Medicine with a focus on time–sensitive medical emergencies such as trauma, stroke, and cardiovascular cases. The four-day event hosted a series of dedicated sessions, workshops and panel discussions attended by industry leaders.

The opening ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH). As a strategic partner, DoH along with the organising committee seek to elevate emergency medicine services across all fronts reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination in healthcare.

H.E Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Undersecretary of DoH, stated: “In Abu Dhabi, we have always believed that our ability to provide exceptional healthcare services is limitless – inspired by our wise leadership who have proven to us that nothing is impossible and that we must continuously strive to improve the quality of healthcare not just for today but for future generations. Through partnering with the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi confirms its commitment to support the growth of this important specialty that is a key pillar of healthcare – reiterating Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination for healthcare across all fronts. We consider Emergency Medicine as a cornerstone to combating pandemics and medical disasters, and we are proud that the Emirate topped global rankings and received international recognition for its outstanding COVID-19 response which was achieved due to Abu Dhabi’s advanced healthcare infrastructure, robust ecosystem, and agile workforce.”

Dr. Rasha Buhumaid the President of the Emirates Society of Emergency Medicine (ESEM) stated: “The conference is considered the largest Emergency Medicine meeting in the Middle East, and it is becoming one of the top global conferences to cover the widest array of topics in the Emergency Medicine field.”

Buhumaid further stated: “This year ESEM society celebrates its 10th anniversary, and since its foundation, the Emergency Medicine (EM) community has reached a series of successful milestones, especially when it comes to the development of physicians’ clinical skillset and knowledge. Furthermore, our vision is perfectly aligned with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, to become a Regional Life Science hub, and expanding the use of research and innovative technologies.

The Conference included eight dedicated workshops and sessions covering topics related to Critical Care, Military Medicine, Paediatric, Medico-legal, Respirology, Radiology, Disaster Medicine, and several other topics. It is worth highlighting that this year’s edition of ESEM received more than 250 scientific research papers. Accepted research papers will be presented during the event, emphasizing on the latest developments in the field of Emergency Medicine.

Moreover, the Conference’s Scientific Committee has introduced the “Emergency Department Quality Improvement Professional” (EQUIP) certification course, delivered by Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Berth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. This course will help Emergency Medicine physicians and nurse leaders improve their clinical practice, and potentially effecting system-wide change, through optimized emergency care delivery, focused on quality and patient safety.

Finally, ESEM 2022 also featured the distribution of awards and recognition of different Emergency Medicine professionals, celebrating its 10th Anniversary. The awards will include Best Emergency Medicine Physician, Best Emergency Medicine Nurse, Best Paramedic, Best Educator, Best Researcher, Best Resident, and Best International Ambassador.

It is worth noting that the conference was attended by a wide array of local, regional, and international organisations, concerned with Emergency Medicine. The Department of Culture and Tourism and the International Federation for Emergency Medicine along with 18 international societies have worked closely to ensure the success of ESEM 2022.
