LYON: Emirates, the Official Main Sponsor of Olympique Lyonnais, sparked excitement on the field last weekend as it hosted children from local organisations, Hôpital Mère Enfant and Centre Léon Bérard on 14 April, 2024.

Hôpital Mère Enfant is a local organisation that provides specialised services in paediatric care; and Centre Léon Bérard is a local organisation renowned for medical oncology services. More than 20 children enjoyed an unforgettable experience walking hand-in-hand with renowned players on the field before kick-off. The children also watched the match and cheered on one of most loved and respected teams in France.

The airline is renowned for its extensive sponsorship portfolio. Through its partnerships, the airline supports local communities, bringing fans together and creating memorable experiences for its customers worldwide.

Emirates’ partnership with Olympique Lyonnais kicked off in 2020. The partnership highlights the airline’s ongoing commitment to the to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, with its iconic Fly Better logo is featured on the team shirts. The airline also enjoys a unique VIP hospitality experience within Groupama Stadium, called the Emirates Club.

Supporting local communities and economies

The airline’s passenger and cargo operations to Lyon continue to play a key role in supporting the country’s growth in trade, business and tourism.

The airline first launched passenger operations to Lyon in December 2012 – becoming the first international operator to connect Lyon to the UAE, Middle East, East Africa and the South Asian subcontinent via Dubai. Since then, the airline has carried more than one million passengers to and from Lyon.

Lyon is also an important destination for Emirates SkyCargo – the cargo division of Emirates – as the city contributes almost 20% of the total freight transported to and from France. Between April 2023 and March 2024, around 7,000 tonnes of cargo were carried to and from Lyon on Emirates, mainly comprising essential goods and pharmaceutical products.

Emirates currently offers customers a daily service from Lyon to Dubai, utilising its wide-body Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The airline connects the French city to Dubai, and also offers travellers direct access to a vast network of more than 130 destinations, via Dubai.

Emirates currently serves France with 35 weekly flights, including 21 weekly flights to Paris (including 3 daily A380s), and 7 weekly flights to Nice utilising its iconic A380 aircraft.
