DUBAI/KARACHI: The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi, Pakistan in association with the Sri Lankan community in the Sindh Province, conducted a Vesak Day religious program on May 23, 2024, at the Consulate General.
Vesak is a major Buddhist festival celebrating the birth, enlightenment, and parinirvana of Gautama Buddha.
The Vesak program was presided over by Venerable Koslande Uditha Thero from the Mahabodhi Temple in Korea, who participated virtually.
The program included Buddha Vandana, Dhamma Deshana, serving of traditional Sri Lankan foods (Vesak Dansela), and Vesak Bathigee.
The Consulate General was decorated with Vesak lanterns, Buddhist flags and lights to mark the occasion.
Consul General Jagath Abeywarna expressed his gratitude to all participants, including Sri Lankan religious communities and Pakistani nationals, for joining in the Vesak Festival celebrations.
