DUBAI: Dr. Suhail Al Bastaki, Chief Community Relations Officer of Union Coop, revealed that the cooperative receives daily shipments of fresh organic vegetables and fruits totaling between 8 to 10 tons from 25 local farms across various emirates.
Each day, Union Coop procures 65 varieties of organic produce such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, zucchinis, cantaloupes, watermelons, and leafy greens from these farms.
The growing consumer demand for organic products reflects a strong preference for healthy dietary choices among UAE residents. Since 2008, Union Coop has been at the forefront of encouraging Emirati farmers to invest in organic farming. The cooperative supports them by showcasing and marketing their products in its branches throughout Dubai, providing space to accommodate more farmers and their products, and highlighting them through billboards and promotional magazines. Additionally, Union Coop organizes workshops, regular meetings, and seasonal farm visits to facilitate knowledge exchange on agricultural plans and best practices.
