KARACHI: In a significant step towards empowering communities and improving the lives of individuals with disabilities, three prominent organizations—IHRI, PMWES, and MAITS UK—have signed a tri-party Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The signing ceremony took place on 27th August 2024, with the MoU signed by Sohaib Gaziyani representing IHRI, Wasim Lawai on behalf of PMWES, and Ms. Sana Mirza from MAITS UK.

This collaboration marks the beginning of a community-based program that will see door-to-door community workers focusing on several critical areas: Capacity Building, Resource Development, Community Support, Partnerships, and Research and Advocacy for people with disabilities.

Key Objectives of the Partnership:

  • Knowledge Enhancement: Improve understanding of the needs and challenges faced by special needs children and their families.
  • Skill Development: Equip participants with practical skills in caregiving, communication, and therapeutic techniques.
  • Empowerment: Empower community health workers and therapists to provide effective support and guidance to families of special needs children.

Roles of the Collaborative Organizations:

  • MAITS UK: An international disability charity, MAITS UK is dedicated to improving access to healthcare and education services by building the capacity of health and education professionals in under-resourced countries. Their efforts focus on ensuring sustainable and inclusive support for children with developmental disabilities, including conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, and global learning disabilities. Through education, training, and support, MAITS UK aims to create lasting change in local communities.
  • IHRI: Committed to enabling differently-abled individuals to live independently, IHRI brings a holistic approach to care that is rooted in the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah. The organization operates advanced rehabilitation centers that integrate medical, physical, psychological, nutritional, special education, and holistic therapies. IHRI will take the lead in implementing the program on the ground, ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive comprehensive support.
  • PMWES: With a vision to provide quality education for all, without discrimination of caste, creed, color, race, sex, or religion, PMWES joins this initiative to support the development of an inclusive community. By collaborating with IHRI and MAITS UK, PMWES will contribute to building a stronger, more inclusive society.

This tri-party MoU represents a shared commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities through community-driven initiatives. By combining their expertise and resources, IHRI, PMWES, and MAITS UK aim to create sustainable change and improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. The program will leverage local resources and knowledge to build the capacity of community workers, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills and understanding needed to provide effective support.

The partnership underscores the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by people with disabilities. Together, IHRI, PMWES, and MAITS UK will work towards creating a more inclusive society where every individual, regardless of their abilities, has the opportunity to thrive.
