KARACHI: Rotary Club of Karachi Silver Sands made history by hosting a groundbreaking event to empower deaf women, promoting inclusivity and diversity under the vision of Charter President Sarwat N Shah.
The event, held on 21st September 2024 brought together 70 deaf women from various professions, including yoga practitioners, squash players, chefs, beauticians, and bankers at the RCK Silver Sands Secretariat in Gulshan e Iqbal. The gathering aimed to celebrate their talents, provide a platform for networking, and foster mutual cooperation.
President Naghma Aqeel of Rotary Club of Karachi Silver Sands and Ms. Irum Jehan, President of Deaf Women Association, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to solidify their partnership.
“This event marks a significant milestone in our journey towards inclusivity,” said President Naghma Aqeel. “We are committed to empowering marginalized communities and promoting social change.”
Ms Sarwat Shah welcomed the community and pledged to create inclusive opportunities for them as she has done for the blind community. She also promised to launch a sign language course under the club to promote better communication. Ms. Raafia, announced a special course and exhibition space for Deaf Chefs & Cooking experts, providing opportunities for deaf women to showcase their culinary skills.
“The deaf community has immense potential, and we’re dedicated to unlocking it,” signed Ms. Irum Jehan. “This partnership with Rotary Club of Karachi Silver Sands will pave the way for greater opportunities and empowerment.”
