DUBAI: More than 1,000 industry professionals from over 50 countries will convene at Fastmarkets’ Middle East Iron and Steel 2024 conference next week to discuss the evolving role of steel in the region’s ongoing transformation, fueled by ambitious mega-projects that are significantly reshaping its infrastructure and economy. The region’s progress in energy transition and economic diversification creates an unprecedented emphasis on developing manufacturing industries, particularly steel—a sector crucial to fulfilling the Middle East’s future aspirations.

Against this dynamic backdrop, Fastmarkets, a leading price-reporting agency (PRA) that is renowned for its cross-commodity market analysis and price data, will deliver an expert-led agenda at its Middle East Iron and Steel 2024 conference, which kicks off on November 18 at the Madinat Conference Centre in Dubai. It promises an in-depth exploration of market trends, legislative developments and technological advancements, both regionally and globally.

His Excellency Omar Ahmed Suwaina Al Suwaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will open proceedings by sharing insights into the region’s industrial vision and the pathway to sustainable and resilient manufacturing.

Coinciding with the UN Climate Change Conference COP29, Middle East Iron and Steel 2024 will feature keynote addresses and panel discussions led by prominent figures in the region, including Saeed Alghafri, CEO of Emirates Steel; Rewant Ruia, Director of Essar Group; Ravi Singh, CEO of SULB Company; Hassan El Marakby, CEO of El Marakby Steel; Ahmed Al Musawa Al Hashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail; and many others.

Raju Daswani, CEO of Fastmarkets, highlighted the crucial role of the Middle East—specifically the UAE—as a global hub for green steel and sustainability within the steel industry. Reflecting on the conference’s theme, “Transform Tomorrow Together”, he emphasized the region’s growing commitment to sustainable practices and its potential to lead green steel innovation.

“As we gather in Dubai, it is evident that the Middle East is positioning itself as a frontrunner in sustainable steel production and a key driver in the global energy transition. With strategic investments and a forward-thinking approach, the region is setting a compelling example for the world to follow. We look forward to fostering dialogue and collaboration that will help shape a sustainable future,” Daswani said.

With participation from over 460 companies, more than 100 speakers and over 50 exhibitors, Fastmarkets’ Middle East Iron and Steel 2024 conference will offer essential market insights, strategies for building resilient supply chains and updates on sustainable steel initiatives. Attendees can look forward to three days of thought-provoking content across three stages, complemented by more than 25 hours of networking opportunities. This event, an exceptional platform to connect with leading suppliers, industry figures and potential partners, guarantees unparalleled opportunities to gain knowledge and forge collaborations critical for navigating the sector’s future.
