KARACHI: In a collaborative effort to foster environmental consciousness among young minds, Green Minds Pakistan, in partnership with the Department of Youth Empowerment, Landhi Town, concluded a six-week environmental awareness workshop series at Johar Library, Landhi No. 2.

The initiative, aimed at equipping youth with knowledge about pollution, climate change, and sustainable practices, was spearheaded by Abdul Wali Khan, Founder and CEO of Green Minds Pakistan, along with Project Director Shahid Khan. Through interactive sessions, the team engaged participants on a range of topics, including types of pollution, their environmental and health impacts, and practical ways individuals can make a difference in their communities.

Speaking at the opening session, Chairman of Landhi Town, Abdul Jameel Khan, emphasized the shared responsibility of citizens in protecting the environment:
“Around the world, tremendous efforts are being made to combat environmental degradation. We, too, must play our part. Earth is the only home we have—its protection is our collective duty.”

Throughout the series, Abdul Wali Khan underscored the pressing threat of global warming, cautioning that the planet is heating at an alarming rate.

“If we continue to ignore the signs, the livability of this planet will become increasingly difficult. Now is the time to act—by changing our habits, adopting eco-friendly lifestyles, and choosing sustainability over convenience.”

He urged participants to opt for minimalism, reduce waste, embrace recycling, and adopt practices that lower their environmental footprint. “We need to move away from a culture of consumption and towards a mindset of conservation,” he added.

In a powerful closing session, Green Minds Pakistan Director Shahid Khan linked environmental responsibility to Islamic values, quoting prophetic traditions that advocate for cleanliness, water conservation, and tree plantation.

“If there’s any historical figure who exemplified environmental stewardship, it’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His teachings offer timeless guidance on how to live in harmony with nature.”

Participants—many of whom were local educators—were encouraged to replicate the learnings from the workshops within their schools and communities. Green Minds Pakistan assured them of continued support, offering training resources and technical assistance to help further the cause.

The workshop series concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks to Director Naeem Gohar of the Youth Empowerment Department, Landhi Town, for facilitating the program and championing youth-led environmental initiatives. Attendees expressed hope that such learning opportunities would become a permanent fixture in the area’s development efforts.
