DUBAI: Public governance education in the UAE has received a significant boost with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government (MBRSG) and the University of Ottawa’s Centre on Governance and the Professional Development Institute.
Signed on Sunday on the sidelines of the third Public Policy Forum, which was held in Dubai under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the agreement will see the two bodies sharing knowledge and expertise in the areas of teaching, learning and professional development for public servants and government employees.
Under the terms of the MoU, the two parties will explore collaboration in areas of governance and public administration, including applied research projects, joint delivery of executive education and the development of educational material, such as case studies and online/hybrid course content. The architects of the agreement say that the partnership will confer considerable benefits to both signatories.
“This is an important agreement that will see the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government collaborate with the University of Ottawa’s Centre on Governance and the Professional Development Institute, whose expertise in the area of education for government personnel resonates with MBRSG’s core mission. We are the first research and teaching institution focusing on governance and public policy in the Arab world and this agreement will help support our efforts to create future leaders and enhance the capabilities of local and federal government officials through top-tier professional development programmes,” said H.E. Dr Ali Sebaa Al Marri, Executive President, MBRSG.

Organised by MBRSG, the two-day Public Policy Forum was held on January 27-28 at Dubai Festival City. Titled: ‘Accelerating SDGs Implementation Future Policy Roadmap,’ the event discussed key issues around health, the private sector, youth engagement and technology in relation to the 17 SDGs under the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
