Expert diplomats analyze Pakistan’s security challenges

KARACHI: Mr. Najmuddin A. Shaikh, Former Ambassador to the US, Iran, Canada and former Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, and Lt Gen (Rtd.) Moinuddin Haider among others discussed Pakistan’s security challenges at a seminar on “Security Challenges to Pakistan”. It was organized recently by the Global and Regional Studies Centre (GRSC), Institute of Business Management (IoBM), according to IoBM Public Affairs Section. Present on this occasion were IoBM’s Mr. Talib S. Karim, President; Dr. Syed Irfan Hyder, Rector; Mr. Najmuddin A. Shaikh, who is also Advisor Research and HoD, GRSC and Dr. Shahida Wizarat, Dean CESD and HoD, Economics Department. 

Invited as guests were Dr. Arshad Zaman, Pakistan’s leading economist; Dr. Naeem Ahmed, Professor, International Relations, University of Karachi; Ambassador (Retired) Attiya Mahmood and Ambassador (Retired) Alam Brohi. IoBM’s Syed Hasan Habib, Former Ambassador and at present Senior Fellow, Center for Policy and Area Studies and Ms. Humaira Kanwal, Research Assistant played a focal role in organizing this Seminar.  Mr. Talib S. Karim said that the GRSC was formed at IoBM to facilitate how this academic institution can play a positive part in addressing Pakistan’s socio-economic concerns. Mr. Najmuddin A. Shaikh said that this seminar seeks to address the domestic problems the new government is confronted with and to examine how far addressing these issues needs us to take account of the foreign policy dimensions. Dr. Shahida Wizarat emphasized on the security concerns arising from Pakistan’s present economic challenges while Dr. Arshad Zaman presented the impact of external factors on business and economy. Dr. Naeem Ahmed and Mr. Moinuddin Haider deliberated upon how terrorism has affected Pakistan. Ex-Ambassadors Ms. Attiya Mahmood and Mr. Alam Brohi shared their thoughts on varying aspects of Pakistan’s foreign policy. Says in press release
