Avivo Group unveils Employee Health Engagement Programme on World Diabetes Day

DUBAI: With diabetes affecting more than one in five people living in the UAE, every effort should be made to curb unhealthy lifestyle prevalent among the majority of the residentsin the country, a Dubai-basedhealth expert saidon World Diabetes Day.

“Balancing good health with a healthy work ambience is imperative in this competitive arena. Let us strive to overcome unhealthy lifestyle which is accompanied with loads of health threats, including diabetes,” said Avivo Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Atul.He was referring to the group’s unique Employee Health Engagement Programmelaunched on World Diabetes Day.

The newly designed programme aims to cover an array of activities, including Spread the Blue Obesity Challenge.

According to an estimate of the World Health Organisation, diabetes has remained the seventh-leading cause of death across the world, but it is an especially severe problem in the Middle East and the UAE.

The number of people with diabetes in the Middle East, according to the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, is set to double within the next 30 years.

Diabetes is a condition that occurs when an individual’s blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is the main source of energy and comes from the food a person eats. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy.
