DUBAI: Emirates has announced the appointment of Shahreyar Nawabi as Senior Vice President Legal, Compliance & Privacy. In his expanded role, Nawabi, a UAE National, will lead Emirates’ growing compliance efforts globally, which reflect the continually evolving complexities and requirements for legal compliance and risk management, including the proliferation of privacy regulation across the globe. Nawabi will continue to lead and manage the legal teams supporting Emirates Airline to support the airline’s corporate and commercial strategy globally and also retain his appointment as the Group’s Data Privacy Officer.
Abdulaziz Al Ali, Emirates Group Executive Vice President Human Resources, commented on Nawabi’s recent appointment: “Shahreyar’s promotion demonstrates the breadth of roles and dynamic careers that many Emiratis hold across the Emirates Group, and the impact they make to the success of our business. Shahreyar’s counsel and contribution to many of our critical business activities has been invaluable, most notably his leadership in the set-up and management of our Data Privacy Office (DPO). We look forward to Shahreyar’s continued contributions to Emirates in his expanded role.”
Nawabi joined Emirates in 2012 as Vice President Legal, leading a group of legal professionals and managing the corporate and commercial legal affairs of the airline globally. In 2018, he was appointed as the Group Data Privacy Officer, managing the Emirates Group’s privacy and data compliance requirements.
Prior to joining Emirates, Nawabi served as Chief Legal Officer for the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), overseeing strategic investment and financial transactions. In addition, he has worked in private law practices in both the United States and the United Kingdom, including Linklaters LLP, the UK’s most prominent corporate law firm where he advised large multinationals, financial institutions and governments on a variety of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and capital market issuances.
Nawabi completed his Bachelor’s in law from the University of Oxford in England (BA Jurisprudence) in 1998 and his Masters in Law from the University of London in 2000.
Nawabi also serves on the board of Emirates Leisure Retail Pty Ltd, as well as Emirates Group’s ground handling joint venture in Jordan and its catering joint venture with Air Arabia in the UAE.
