AL AIN: The first of its kind karting competition for students kicked off in Al Ain on Friday, January 26, with drivers as young as twelve racing for a spot in the finals, which will be held on February 16, 2018.

The Students’ Karting Cup UAE, a UAE-wide karting competition for teenagers—returned on its third edition this year, with the country’s youngest aspiring racers setting their eyes on the cup. Sponsored by Mazda, Hughey Phillips, Dell, Veedol, Catobo and Flow, the event was over subscribed. Al Ain Raceway, which has the Middle East’s longest racetrack, have been the venue partners for the F1-style event, for the third year in succession.

Junior to college students were in for an exciting day on the racetrack, with participants divided into age groups of 12 to 16, 17 to 19 and 20 to 23. Only 15 juniors, 20 seniors and 20 University students will make it to the finals on the 16th of February. The youngest racer on the grid was just over 12 years. To support the kids and event, a bikers parade will take place from Dubai to the raceway on the final day of the championship.

“The number of participants in this year’s SKCUAE doubled than that of last year, and we are extremely glad that many of the UAE’s young and aspiring kart racers have come out here today,”said Sandhya Unni, Director, TwoTone Events. “The competition sets the stage for the UAE’s budding motorsport talents, and at the same time it gives awareness to students on safe driving despite the thrill for speed,”Unni added.

This year’s event also features a battle of bands that will see music bands from schools and colleges across the UAE competing for the top prize. They include Manipal University, Middlesex University, and Herriot University amongst others. In addition, the UAE food guide community –Jorenq will host a food  sale by the residents of Al Ain.
