As part of its efforts at COP27 to drive greater dialogue towards climate change, 3M (NYSE: MMM) sponsored and concluded a successful joint AmCham Egypt and U.S. Chamber of Commerce gala dinner on Saturday, November 12, 2022. The dinner was hosted jointly with the U.S Chamber of Commerce and featured a keynote from the Honourable John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, and Head of President Biden’s National Economic Council, Brian Deese. Held at the Park Hyatt Regency Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, other highlights of the evening included meaningful conversations around topics such as the importance of collaborations, and public-private partnerships (PPP), with a stronger focus on ‘learnings’ for organizations seeking to achieve their sustainability goals.

Dr. Gayle Schueller, Global Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at 3M, said: “I would like to thank AmCham Egypt for presenting us the opportunity to host and sponsor this special forum. We are deeply passionate about unlocking the power of people, ideas, collaboration, and science to reimagine what’s possible. At COP27, we want to focus on significant progress and implementation of commitments so that the world can set bolder ambitions that move us even faster towards a zero-carbon future. Inspiring forums like these help us dive into more dialogue and to drive action.”

Tarek Tawfik, AmCham Egypt President, said: “AmCham Egypt is committed to advancing the private sector commitments towards climate mitigation and adaptation. Such forums will go a long way in leading our collective efforts to fight climate change by assisting organizations and members in fostering innovation and scientific thinking. We are truly at a critical juncture – the world needs greater collaboration and faster action to protect our planet.”

He added: “On behalf of AmCham Egypt and our nation to the world – we want to thank you and reiterate our commitment to solving one of the world’s greatest crises.”

Walid Sowaidan – General Counsel, 3M, MEA Region & Trade Compliance Lead Counsel, EMEA, said: “One of the most exciting aspects of science is that we’re always learning new things and evolving our assumptions. No doubt, our climate commitments are guided by science to create a more sustainable world in the long term. While we’re taking a leading role, we’re also learning from others, convening coalitions and forums, and working collaboratively with governments, partners, and key organizations to help customers, industries, and communities for a better future.”

At COP 27, 3M will also participate in and sponsor two panel discussions. The first panel discussion, “Creating Energy Security for All: Technology & Policy Opportunities, ” will take place on November 15, 2022. The second panel discussion will be held on November 17, 2022, focusing on the critical subject of ‘Collaborating for Climate Solutions: How can we Accelerate Partnerships.’ Both panels are headlined by Dr. Gayle Schueller, Global Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer from 3M, amongst other regional and global industry leaders.
