DUBAI: Dubai World Central (DWC) added another name to its growing list of international airlines with the arrival of the inaugural flight of Pegas Fly (Ikar Airlines) on Saturday. Pegas Fly will operate charter flights into DWC from multiple destinations in Russia, which has emerged as one of the most important country destinations for Dubai in terms of passenger traffic growth.

Dubai Airports launched cargo operations at DWC on June 27, 2010 as part of the first phase of the project. The airport has a total of 36 freight operators (scheduled and chartered) signed up and operating at the facility.

DWC welcomed more than 600 flights per week for a period of 80 days when both runways at Dubai International were undergoing a major refurbishment between May 1 and July 20, 2014.

Phase 1 of DWC includes a single A380 compatible runway; a passenger terminal with capacity of 5 million passengers per annum (expandable to 7 million); a cargo terminal building with a capacity of 250,000 tonnes per annum (expandable to 600,000) and a 92-metre air traffic control tower. News Desk
