Men’s Health Congress opens at Mohammed bin Rashid Academic Medical Centre

DUBAI: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), the 2nd edition of Men’s Health Congress – MHC, officially opened at the Mohammed bin Rashid Academic Medical Centre in Dubai Healthcare City today. The 3-day premier Men’s Health event aims to shed light and heighten awareness on lesser known preventable health problems associated with men and why early detection and treatment is key to preserving and ensuring favorable healthier outcomes.

Following the opening, Dr. Ahmed bin Kalban, CEO of the Specialized Healthcare Services Sector, Dubai Health Authority, accompanied by Dr. Yaser Saeedi, Co-chairman of scientific committee, Eng. Aiman Al Madani, CEO, Finance & Administration, INDEX Holding, and a number of senior healthcare officials from the government and private sector, toured the exhibition area, where representatives of various participating companies briefed the delegation about the latest trends and treatment practices involved in the prevention of diseases particularly impacting men.

Speaking on behalf of His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Director General of DHA, Dr. Ahmed bin Kalban, CEO of the Specialized Healthcare Services Sector, Dubai Health Authority, said in his opening speech: “The list of diseases that threaten men’s life is on the rise due to many factors like smoking and obesity and due to the increase of prevalence of cardiovascular diseases and tumors amongst men. The increase in prevalence of such health problems among men greatly affects community’s productivity, sustainability and wellbeing.”

He added: “The changes that the world is witnessing these days in its environmental system and climate, and the dangerous behaviors and habits of men, pose enormous challenges on institutions responsible for the health of communities, including Dubai Health Authority. Therefore, it has adopted a variety of preventive and curative projects and initiatives to reduce any potential health risks that might threaten men’s health.”

From his side, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman, Men’s Health Congress, said, “In the second edition of this highly specialized event, we aim to create a platform where new research in Men’s health can be exchanged and new treatment methods can be discussed by bringing together leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars from all over the world. It is also the perfect destination for practitioners and educators to present and showcase the most recent innovations, concerns and solutions adopted in the fields of Men’s Health.”

He added, “This year, Men’s Health Congress is featuring a number of scientific sessions and lectures which are specially designed to focus on conditions and diseases that are more prevalent in men. In addition, an exhibition, running parallel to the conference will feature the participation of 10 companies, offering them a chance to keep up to date with the latest innovations in the market, display their products as well as network with existing and future partners and expected to attract more than 400 visitors from the UAE and abroad.”

Commenting on this occasion, Dr. Yaser Saeedi, Co-chairman of scientific committee, consultant urologist, Dubai hospital said, “I am very pleased with the agenda this year as it tackles various pressing issues related to men and their health from a new and comprehensive perspective, with attention to other medical specialties such as Urology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Psychiatry, Nutrition and Physical Health. The agenda also covers topics related to raise awareness among the communities about the men related diseases, the importance of early detection, and the currently available methods of treatment. We hope that this congress will contribute to enhancing the happiness of society under the directives of our wise leadership”.

This year, MHC brought together 30 expert speakers from various fields of medicine such as Urology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Dermatology, and even Psychiatry, who actively shared their deep insights into various key topics associated with men’s health including: ‘Diabetes, Obesity and Testosterone’, ‘Male Fertility as a Marker of Good Health’ and ‘Prostate Cancer’ among others. Over the next two days, a total of 11 scientific sessions will focus on the latest trends and practices that are helpful in the early diagnosis and treatment of men’s health while the agenda also includes Live Transmission of 2 Penile Implant Surgeries and 2 Green Laser Turp Surgeries.

As experts focused their attention on key diseases impacting men in particular, latest studies show that heart disease is one of the leading health risks facing men today, with one in 3 adult men at risk. Keeping this in mind, experts highlighted that healthy diet, healthy lifestyle, sufficient exercise and refraining from smoking are some of the key remedies that can prevent heart diseases among men. In addition, experts stressed that family involvement and an open environment that encourages men to access healthcare services are equally essential for improving men’s health.
