Dubai Government Workshop drives sustainability efforts in government sector

DUBAI: Reflecting its commitment to creating and maintaining a sustainable environment, which forms a pillar of the National Agenda in line with the UAE Vision 2021, the Dubai Government Workshop (DGW), announced the integration of latest solutions aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in its services. The use of environmentally friendly waterborne paint instead of traditional solvent-based paint has made DGW the first government entity to adopt this eco-friendly solution in painting and has also earned DGW the recognition of being a pioneer in the incorporation of sustainability in organizational practices, in alignment with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The UAE Vision 2021 places fundamental importance in promoting sustainability across all industries and sectors. DGW’s move to switch to waterborne paint is significant in this regard as it contains less volatile organic compounds (VOCs), when compared to traditional paints. The term VOC is used to cover a wide array of harmful organic chemicals that can negatively impact not only the heath of the employees, but also the environment. Replacing traditional paint options with waterborne paint ensures better health and tremendously improves air quality by preventing the release of a variety of harmful chemicals not just into the air, but into the water as well.

H.E. Humaid Sultan Al Mutaiwee, Dubai Government Workshop (DGW) CEO, said: “The adoption of environmentally friendly solutions in our services supports the UAE government’s efforts to ensure sustainable development while preserving the integrity of the environment to achieve a perfect balance between economic and social developments. By replacing traditional solvent-based paints with eco-friendly waterborne paints, we aim to contribute to the achievement of the goals set by the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda to improve the quality of air and to preserve water resources. We look forward to extending the use of latest technologies and sustainability practices to other operational areas in the vehicle maintenance domain as well.”

Ruud Joosten, Global Chief Operating Officer of the Dutch paints and coatings manufacturer and supplier AkzoNobel, hailed DGW’s dedication and commitment to the adoption of eco-friendly solutions and its efforts in driving sustainability measures in the government sector, during his recent visit to the Dubai Government Workshop. He met with DGW’s senior officials to discuss the partnership, which cemented the future of the mutually beneficial partnership between both parties.
